Fifth Grade Completes a Refugee Study with a Community Share
Who are refugees and how can we protect their human rights? What are the circumstances that surround an individual or family’s decision to leave their home?
Last week the Fifth Grade wrapped up their refugee unit with a community share. Over the last two months the class studied the refugee experience using the guiding questions: Who are refugees and how can we protect their human rights? What are the circumstances that surround an individual or family’s decision to leave their home? Why might people resent or fear them? How can we create a culture of empathy and care?
The fifth grade students used current events, photographs, art and partnering organizations to better understand the multiple perspectives surrounding refugees and human migration. They led parents, SFS students, and faculty through exercises and presentations to share what they learned.
